The Night that Stood Still

He took the steering with both his hands, groped at it as hard as he could. The road was empty that night, as he drove at a demonic speed. The lights flashed by as though he had rode against the essence of time. The exhaust from his F800 GS BMW roared like never before.

What was on his mind?

The black satin motorcycle was a beauty, lined in bright red with perfect shiny finishes, it came to slow down at a quiet neighborhood. He climbed down the black beauty and took his helmet off. He bears an expressionless face, his eyes were hollow, without a soul in it. Sweat began to flow down his temples, and he brushed it away with his arm. He stares at the place he chose to end his journey. It was an abandoned bus stop, with lights that flicker to the rhythm of his pulse.

He rested at one of the benches. The cold night wind blew and he felt it run down his spine. There was silence. A horrifying silence. The young man then placed his right palm upon his eyes. Warm tears began to well in them.

The time that went by seemed forever. And yet he sat there without movement. Then suddenly, he placed his hand into his jeans pocket and took out a cellphone. He browsed through the phonebook but could not find a friend he wanted to meet, nor a person he could speak to. Not until he stumbled across her name.

HOU

(irritated)

Are you listening to me, you jerk?

Silence. No response.

HOU

(angered)

Look at that ugly face of yours. We might be brothers but thank god we aren't alike. You look like a piece of shit.

Kit looks at his brother, he looks annoyed by his brother's words but still does not speak back.

Hou realizes that his brother is annoyed with his words, therefore continues to ridicule him.

HOU

And that pathetic head of yours, brainless as ever. There's nothing but crap in there.

Are you shitting me?

Hou grabs his brother by the collar. He looks at Kit angrily. And then punches his stomach

Kit looks at Hou with a sad expression.

KIT

I don't care what you say. I know Ma loves me too.

HOU

(laughs)

Are you living in your little dream, retard?

KIT

(irritated)

Can you shut up?

HOU

(laughs)

Ooh. I'm so scared!

Kit turns a little angered.

He looks over his shoulder and sees a familiar face at the desk beside his. His brother, Hou is staring at him all this while. He notices Kit paying attention at him and thus he gave him a big sinister smile.

Kit looks at the note again. Behind the note, is seen a test paper written with red ink a single digit.

Silence.

Suddenly a loud piercing voice broke the long awkward silence.

TEACHER

Kit! Are you concentrating? I hope you can do better next time.

Kit looks at his teacher.

The teacher sits at a larger desk at a corner.

Ma rushes into the class. She looks a little disorganize.

As she walks across the classroom in the direction of the teacher's desk she stops half way, right in front of her son, Kit.

Kit looks up to meet her eyes. He could see the sorrow and disapointment written all over her face. Her eyes starts to water up.

Then she continues over to the teacher's desk.

HOU

Look what you did.

KIT

(annoyed)

Can you please stop it.

HOU

No wonder nobody ever loves you

Kit looks at his brother with a mix of rage and misery.

Then he starts to pack up his stationery.

KIT

(angered)

I can kill you. And it will all end.

HOU

(laughs sarcastically)

Come on then. What are you waiting for?

Hou walks slowly coming closer to Kit.

Kit takes a few steps back. Slightly afraid.

HOU

Kill me! Come on!

Hou is right in front of Kit.

He holds the knife together with Kit at the opposite direction. He places the sharp edge of the knife to touch against his skin behind the school uniform.

HOU

Kill me!

Kit lets out a cry of anger and shouts aloud.
